Staff Spotlight - Jenny Gamez

Jenny is Food Share’s Office Administrator, and the cheery face you’ll see greeting you if you visit us. She has worked at Food Share for a little under three years.

Why do you work at Food Share?

I’m here because I am for the mission 110%. I see the people who come to our offices looking for food and the stress on their faces. Hunger is not something anyone should have to suffer.

What’s the best part of your job?

I love to know that together with my coworkers, volunteers and donors we are here to help give food to those that are less fortunate. Seeing how grateful the recipients are is priceless.

Tell us something we don’t know about you.

I worked at the Ventura County Star newspaper for 20 years, some of it at the same time as Monica White, Food Share’s President & CEO, who was then marketing director at the Star. Monica took this photo of me for a promo piece for Food Share’s 3rd annual food drive. Seven years later we’re both working together again at Food Share and are still as passionate about the mission as ever!

Staff Spotlight - Iris Salazar

Iris has worked at Food Share for 4 years, managing the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) serving 3,500 food-insecure seniors a month.

Why do you work at Food Share?

I work at Food Share because it shares my vision and values. I have always been passionate about helping the community. I started doing the CSFP outreach and loved the interaction and learning about our community’s needs.

What’s the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is knowing that I’m making a difference in the lives of vulnerable seniors who are struggling with food insecurity.

Tell us something we don’t know about you.

Growing up, my family received assistance from Food Share. We were very grateful for the help we received during those hard times.

Now that's dedication!

No less than four of Food Share’s employees are celebrating more than 15 years of service with the organization. Grants Manager, Kristy Pollard; Aaron McMillan, Driver for the Senior Nutrition program; Rich Guest, Inventory Control Lead; and Andy Murphy, Warehouse Operations Manager have collectively amassed an extraordinary 76 years with Food Share, helping shape the organization’s growth into the largest hunger-relief organization in Ventura County.

“Kristy, Aaron, Rich and Andy have each helped to make Food Share what it is today,” commented Monica White, President & CEO of Food Share. “The duration of their service says so much about them as people and as professionals who are committed to our mission to lead the fight against hunger in Ventura County. We’re truly honored to have them in the Food Share family. Congratulations!”
