Jeff Dietz is the Food Pantry Coordinator at River Community Church, overseeing donations, volunteer coordination, and weekly pantry operations. Under his leadership, the pantry serves over 700 people each week, a number that has tripled in just three years.
“Without access to the food that Food Share provides, our pantry wouldn’t be able to function. About 80% of what we distribute comes directly from Food Share—hands down, they’re vital to us.”
Jeff describes the people they serve as resilient and diverse. Many are experiencing temporary hardships—job loss, family struggles, or financial gaps—but even the strongest community members sometimes need a helping hand.
“Even the most independent people will come through, and they are always gracious and appreciative. It reminds us that even strong people need support sometimes.”
The pantry provides balanced meals, including fresh produce, protein, dairy, bread, and fruits, ensuring families leave with nutritious options for the week.
One story that stands out for Jeff is that of a mother with seven children who had just lost her partner and her job. She arrived expecting only food but left with hope, security, and a renewed sense of life.
“Food is life, and that’s what we offer here—hope for a better day. Every donor who contributes is helping more than one family. Their generosity impacts the entire community. We truly take care of one another; when one suffers, we all suffer.”
Jeff hopes donors understand the ripple effect of their support.
“It takes a village to raise a child, and it takes a village to care for our community. Your giving may seem small, but it creates huge change for the people we serve.” 🧡
