“I have no food in my house right now.”
Those are difficult words to say out loud but John shared them because he knows he’s not alone.
Living on a small Social Security income every month is a balancing act. If he spends more on groceries, he worries about paying his bills. If he pays his bills first, there may not be enough money left for food.
No one should have to make that choice, but unfortunately, a lot of Ventura County seniors do.
Today, he can put nutritious food on his table without sacrificing the roof over his head or the electricity that keeps his home running.
“I really need this help right now,” John says. He isn’t looking for a handout. He’s simply looking for a little food during a difficult season of life.
He is deeply grateful that Food Share is here for him today and hopeful that we’ll continue to be here for all the other seniors who need us tomorrow.
Because hunger doesn’t disappear overnight. But neither does hope.
Every meal shared, every volunteer hour and every gift from our community helps ensure neighbors like John don’t have to face an empty pantry alone.
Because no one should go hungry.
