Pam has worked at Food Share for a little over nine years. She has one of the most important roles at the organization – managing the 190 food pantries and other agencies that “shop” at Food Share to provide food direct to the community.
Why do you work at Food Share?
I relate to the families that we serve as I experienced hunger as a child growing up in a loving and hardworking family of nine. We picked crops and I grew up in a one room shack with no plumbing or electricity. I see my own family in some of the struggling families we help. Boxes of food were placed on our doorstep when I was young and when I found out that the F.O.O.D. in Food Share’s name stood for “Food On Our Doorstep”, I knew it was the right place to pay it forward.
What is the best part of your job?
Working with the beautiful angels throughout this county who demonstrate their compassion, empathy and love to those whose lives are on a rougher path than others. These angels are the agency pantry coordinators, Food Share staff and incredible volunteers. Being a witness to their daily actions of “giving of one’s self” serves as the best sermon or inspiration that I’ve ever experienced.
Tell us something we don’t know about you.
I hate paying full price for anything so I love shopping in secondhand stores. The majority of my furniture is from a secondhand store, but I will blowout my budget when it comes to spoiling my grandchildren!
