Finding Joy in Giving Back – Janie

“I love working here, it’s a blast. I just wish I had found it sooner.”

That’s how Janie sums up her experience volunteering with Food Share and her words say everything.

What started as a simple decision to give back quickly became something she looks forward to. Not just because of the impact, but because of the experience itself.

At Food Share, Janie found more than a volunteer opportunity. She found a community.

Each shift is filled with conversation, laughter, and connection. Side by side with other volunteers, she’s built relationships that make meaningful work fun. The kind of place where people show up not just to help, but to belong.

And while the atmosphere is uplifting, the mission is serious.

Every hour Janie spends volunteering helps provide food to neighbors across Ventura County, families, seniors, and individuals facing food insecurity. It’s a direct, tangible way to make a difference.

That combination of purpose and connection makes the experience powerful.

For Janie, the only regret is not starting sooner.

Because once you step in, you realize it’s more than volunteering. It’s community. It’s impact. It’s joy.
