In the past two weeks, we’ve seen a 25% increase in neighbors seeking food assistance. This sharp rise comes as CalFresh (SNAP) benefits were delayed nationwide, leaving many families uncertain about how they’ll afford groceries this month.
Here’s how Food Share is responding:
-
We immediatelyВ purchased $1 million of foodВ to meet the surge in demand.
-
WeВ increased food distributions countywide, including large-scale events like our weekly College Park distribution in Oxnard.
-
WeВ ramped upВ our 200-pantry network, ensuring our partners have more food to serve the increased number of families turning to them for help.
This government shutdown hasn’t just stalled hunger relief programs, it has pushed families to the edge.
Here in Ventura County, we saw the impact firsthand:
-
Seniors who’ve never needed help before.
-
Parents doing everything they can to stretch their paychecks.
-
Kids who don’t understand why parents aren’t eating with them.
Now, even as CalFresh benefits have been funded through November, the hardship continues as many families will struggle to recover.
At Food Share, we remain committed to responding regardless of the situation. But we can’t do it alone. Your support ensures we can continue to provide food across Ventura County to every neighbor in need.
How you can help today:В
- Donate – Every $10 helps provide 30 meals for neighbors in need. Give nowВ

Together, we can ensure Ventura County remains strong, supported, and fed—no matter the challenges still to come.
