Assist our Event Coordinator with the coordination and/or implementation of fund raising activities, information booths at community events, parades, etc. Volunteer duties vary and may include: manning a booth, distributing FOOD Share information and materials, meeting and greeting attendees, registering attendees, running booth activities, parking logistics, serve food, sell raffle tickets, decorate, set-up and break down of booth, and perform other duties as needed. Volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups are available Monday through Friday at our FOOD Share warehouse, at events, and with our farm and gleaning partners. Shifts vary depending on opportunity. Not all opportunities are available. Please contact our Volunteer Department to find out.

Volunteer Opportunities
Inspect, sort, and box food (produce, canned and packaged) for agency distribution.
Activity is based upon availability of product.
Work directly in the fields to pick produce for distribution. We are in need of volunteer pickers and drivers who are willing to go out into local backyards and private orchards to help pick the bounty available in Ventura County.
Drives designated routes, readies truck for produce picks, oversees group of pickers/gleaners, and drive back to FOOD Share warehouse.
Must be a minimum age of 21 and under the age of 75.
Assist Program Manager, Gray Wilking, in the Senior Nutrition garden located adjacent to FOOD Share. Tasks vary and can include hand weeding, weeding with garden tools, harvesting vegetables, planting seeds and installing irrigation.
Every Monday and Wednesday from 8:00 am – noon.
You must sign up ahead of time in order to enjoy this fun volunteer opportunity.
The regional food bank’s newest program, FOOD Share & Friends, is a mobile food pantry that delivers food and farm-fresh produce to food insecure individuals with limited access to traditional food pantry sites and programs. FOOD Share and Friends will also connect people with the food bank’s cross-sector partners, who offer basic needs services, such as employment, housing and health security. Together, through FOOD Share and Friends, this local collaborative will strive to help individuals in need to achieve stability and self-sufficiency.
Assist a child in preparing healthy snacks at our Kids’ Farmers’ Market sites. Help our nutritionist with the children, chopping, measuring, washing, cleaning, clearing & setting up tables, help kids take produce at the market portion of the program. You must pass a background check in order to start volunteering for this program. These volunteer openings take place once a month.
Pack and box our Senior Kits that go out once a month to low income seniors in Ventura County.
Inspect, sort, and box bread into various categories made ready for agency distribution.
Inspect, sort, and box produce (fruits and/or vegetables) for agency distribution. For scheduling and safety reasons we ask that your group has a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 15 people. You must pre-schedule your group with with FOOD Share’s Volunteer Department to enjoy this volunteer opportunity. Groups over 15 are asked to split up to glean, garden, or sort produce. Activity is based upon availability of product.
Help our volunteer, Kathleen O’Connell, maintain our garden, and learn about gardening in the process.
We need volunteers to help water every Monday and Friday. Come when your schedule allows.
Provide administrative/office support to staff for various programs, data entry, filing, organizing, copying, putting packets together, making thank you cards, sending cards, and making thank you calls to donors. Computer experience may be required for certain projects.
Assist Food Drive Coordinator in organizing and carrying-out food drives in neighborhoods/work places/schools/churches/clubs.
Truck Drivers
Drive designated routes for food pick-up and/or deliveries.
Class “C” drivers license and satisfactory DMV driving report required. Must be a minimum age of 21 and under the age of 75. May be on an on-call basis.
Assist the truck driver with loading and unloading of pick ups and deliveries of food products. May be on an on-call basis.
Help at our partner pantry agencies with duties specified by agency contact. You would become their volunteer.
Assist our warehouse staff in a variety of warehouse duties such as pulling orders, assisting agency shoppers with loading and unloading their vehicles, cleaning our cooler and freezer, etc.
