Gleaning Statistics

The Gleaning Department has many faces that get the work done and would not be possible without them. Some are our weekly drivers and assistants that put in their all to relieving hunger head on. They wake up a little bit earlier than most just to put coffee and water in the truck to our own ladders and picking poles in the bed of the truck. Heading off to a local meeting site to meet up with our weekly gleaners as well as our corporate, organization and school groups(Farmer’s Insurance, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, CSU Channel Islands [CCE&GGC&HRE], Stronghold Institute and Villanova Preparatory School) and taking role before we enter the field. Arriving to a pick site to meet our donor at their properties from Ojai to Simi Valley. We simply can’t glean without them and we wouldn’t want to have it any other way.

Note: The conclusions on this page gets updated irregularly but the data in the charts below are are updated after every completed pick.

Gleaning Over Time

  • Every year seems to be bigger that last, with the current year outpacing the year before.
  • In the Current year, we are seeing a steady picking pace being set rather than a sporadic which is credit to better organization of volunteers, donors and staff in the Gleaning Department.

Gleaning by City

  • 1 in every 4 pieces of fruit are picked in Somis
  • 1 in every 2 pieces of fruit are picked in Oxnard Plain (Camarillo, Oxnard, Ventura, Somis)
  • 1 in 2 Picks are in Ventura or Camarillo
  • 3 in 4 Picks and Pounds are from the same five cities. (Camarillo, Fillmore, Somis, Ojai, Ventura)

Gleaning by Month

  • Although Fairly Even Some Months like April, May, July are peak seasons for quickly perishable and large crops.
  • Fall months due to inclement weather tend not to have many picks but this is a very good time for large pick ups.
  • Even in our slowest months we are still averaging around 20 picks a month.
  • April is large due in part with our Partnership with the LDS Church and their help gleaning on average 25+ houses in just one Saturday.

Gleaning by Day

  • Weekend Picks do happen but very rarely the office is open so picks are not logged until Monday
  • Monday is slightly biggest because of the weekend picks however it’s probably a MOE of ±3%
  • Tuesday’s Gleaning Team we’re the first to take on two picks a day.
  • Wednesday thru Friday tend to be the best days for Group Picks.
