Letter carriers carry an extra load on May 12th to help feed their community
FOOD Share, Inc. is proud to once again partner with the National Association of Letter Carriers for the 26th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
On Saturday, May 12th, residents are encouraged to set out a bag or two of shelf-stable, non-perishable food items by their mailbox. Local letter carriers will take the bags back to the post office where dozens of FOOD Share volunteers will collect it on behalf of FOOD Share. Thousands of paper bags will be pre-distributed to homes in Ventura, Oxnard, and Thousand Oaks through the Ventura County Star on Sunday, May 6 or through their postal carrier a few days prior to the event.
“Since FOOD Share has been part of this food drive, the community has donated over one millions pounds of food,” said Monica White, President & CEO of FOOD Share. “That equates to over 2.6 million meals that we’ve been able to provide our hungry friends and neighbors over the past 15 years just from this one-day food drive.”
FOOD Share expects to receive nearly 150,000 pounds of food during this one-day national food drive. “Not only do these amazing letter carriers work their regular, everyday route, on this day they go above and beyond to collect and transport dozens of heavy bags of food.” explained White. “Words can’t express our appreciation for our local post offices and postal carriers for their commitment to the community we serve.
